Club Chairman

Club AGM

Monday 10th November is the Club AGM. which is being held at Merrimans (formerly Ruddy Duck).

7.45 pm for 8 pm start.

From Dianne Killick;

I would just like to say a big thanks to all our members who rode and gave me so much support on my first 100 miles bike ride. Without their support i do not know how i would have finished and through doing it i have managed to raise a good 500 pounds for the Lincs Air Ambulance .

Diane

From Richard Clare:

Jake attended the GHS National Schools Championship on the 14th sept in Ware, Hertfordshire. 145 entrants from the age of 12-16 but only 105 rode the 10 mile course. The Trial started on the A602 then down a slip road onto the A10 dual carriageway. This is an undulating course which went out 5.2miles to a roundabout then back down the A10 to finish at the Wodson Park Sports Centre. Jakes' time was 26m05s which matched his personal best. He finished 61st overall.

Two Yello Velo riders entered the 'Sleaford to Skegness TT' on Sunday 14th September, organised by Sleaford Wheelers it is a one way race of 37 miles and the very last local TT prior to the off-road Cyclo-cross season starting. Steve Blackbourn recorded 2 hours and 3 seconds and Rachael Collings recorded 2 hours 7 minutes and 34 seconds. Both riders then cycled home after the event with Rachael unlucky to puncture but very lucky not to have punctured during the race."

Following the sad news of the death of Ken Smith, after a hard fought battle against cancer, I have been informed that the funeral will take place on Friday 19 September 2008, at 1.20 pm at Boston Crematorium. Dianne Killick will attend on behalf of the Club but if anyone else wishes to attend they are welcome to do so.

LRRA 10 30th August

Five riders from Yello Velo raced the LRRA 10 mile TT on Saturday 30th

August, it was fine and dry but very windy for the 103 riders

entered. Wojciech Lakomy was the fastest Yello Velo rider with 23.04, next was

Asa Elkington with 24.06, then Steve Blackbourn in 25.20, James Tyson

in 27.33 and Rachael Collings in 28.11. Rachael was racing her first

ever Open 10mile TT event and her pre-race butterflies didn't last

long, she caught and overtook the rider in front by the halfway

point. Full results are out next week and James Tyson is expected to do well

in the handicap awards.

Message from our Chairman

As some of you will know during the past few months I have being trying to encourage members of differing abilities to get together and ride on a regular basis. My thoughts were that those members who wanted or would benefit from a longer hard ride wouldn't feel obliged to wait for riders such as myself who prefer a shorter less fast ride and don't wish to feel that they are holding anyone up. It would seem I may have upset some members; this certainly wasn't my intention.

Please let me know if you wish me to continue trying to organise rides. However, I do feel it is important that we continue with our club ride on the last Sunday of each month.

On a separate issue, don't forget the Club meeting on Monday 15th September at Merriman's (formally The Ruddy Duck), Great Fen Lane, when we will be discussing future events including the Club Cyclocross in November.

I quote “Free membership for first time members or those members who have lapsed for 2yrs or more”. I will bring the forms and details to our Club Time Trials for anyone interested.

24th April:

Well done Asa! Winner of the Road Race last night, 23rd April held at Brattlby/Aisthorpe. Seven laps equalling 24 miles with a steepish hill many regard as one of the toughest in the series. Accompanied by another young rider Asa kept well ahead and the sprint finish saw Asa lead to the line from about 250yds.

28th March

A Club Clothing order is being compiled and all of you should had the texts from Alan. A Note of caution to our members in that ‘Opens’ should only be ridden in clothing that shows no sponsors. Club events such as our Time Trial League can be ridden in any other Yellow Velo kit that any members might have. If there becomes a situation whereby a member is stuck and does not have plain kit (un-sponsored) and has entered an Open then please ask around as I’m sure someone could help out.

4th March

We now have 6 teams for the 2-Up Time Trial being held by Boston Wheelers on 16th March. Anyone not entered but wishes to do so, please contact Steve Blackburn.

4th Feb ...

Sleaford Wheelers to the rescue

In an effort to rescue something from the weekend Sleaford Wheelers have very kindly offered to put on the following event. In order to show support please make every effort to attend. If you can let me know if you are planning to take part that would be great.

Alan

From Sleaford Wheelers ...

“Sunday will now be a joint reliability ride.

Three groups 50 miles - 41 miles – 30 miles.

Set times so will suit all.

The route is the same for all but the two shorter rides cut through at half way or two thirds of the way out.

Should provide an alternative for all riders.

Everybody should finish together and have refreshments at the Solo Club.

It will be great with riders from both – or all three – clubs out.”

From Darren Smith:

2 members of Yello Velo - Darren Smith & Dave Killick - and 1 member from
Boston Wheelers - Charlie Porter competed in the Marin Winter Series Round 3
at Thetford Forest at the weekend.
The third round of the 2007-8 Marin winter Enduro series once again
attracted a big field of mud-proof mountain bikers with the entry capped at
500.
Darren and Charlie entered the 2 hour Men 18-39 catergory and Dave entered
the 2 hour Men 40+.
The January weather was mild and windy and the fast twisty and flowing
single track was just sloppy mud in places.
After digging deep each of the 3 riders completed 3 laps, finishing was as
follows:-

02:08:43 - CHARLIE PORTER - BOSTON WHEELERS 1)43:33 2)41:31 3)43:39
